Lucy

Bay Quarter Horse

Sweet Lucy is only four years old… yet she has already endured more heartbreak and hardship than most horses should ever know.

Lucy came to us alongside her devoted best friend, Trooper, after they were seized by animal control from a heartbreaking neglect situation. When Lucy arrived, she was severely emaciated, frightened, and carrying the visible scars of profound suffering.

Just prior to being rescued, Lucy had undergone the traumatic removal of one of her eyes due to a severe infection. She arrived understandably anxious, hyper-vigilant, and unsure of the world around her. … who could blame her?

Shortly after arriving at Believe Ranch & Rescue, we discovered Lucy was pregnant. Despite everything she had already been through, we held onto hope that this brave girl might still get the chance to safely bring new life into the world.

Sadly, that wasn’t meant to be.
Lucy lost her baby in the first trimester.

So at just four years old, this precious mare has endured neglect, starvation, the loss of an eye, the loss of her baby, and the terrifying uncertainty of rescue and recovery.

And yet… Lucy is still here.
Still gentle.
Still beautiful.
Still trying to trust.

Lucy is an incredibly sensitive soul with a heart that simply needs safety, patience, and love. Because of all she has endured, her bond with Trooper is everything. He is her comfort, her confidence, her guide, and her very best friend. Lucy does not do well separated from him, which is why these two must be adopted together.

The beautiful part of this story? Trooper is shaping into an incredible riding partner, while Lucy would make the most loving companion horse for someone with a big heart and a kind hand.

If you are looking for not just one extraordinary horse, but a bonded pair with a story of resilience, loyalty, and survival… Lucy and Trooper may be your perfect match.
