“Good things come to those who wait.” It is a beautiful life lesson that gentle rescue Chester has reminded us of. Though he was abandoned at auction with severe damage to his back legs, he never lost his quiet, peaceful nature and kind eye. However, this poor boy had pulled back into himself a bit, understandably worried, shy, and a bit untrusting of people. Now safe and with nothing but love and tender care in his life, we are reaping the rewards of our patience and getting to see more of Chester’s personality and he learns to open up again. Instead of shying away and hiding, he now watches the goings-on in the barn with curiosity. He’ll also stick around (and even lean in!) for some loving pets, scratches, and brushing! Chester has also recently made some new and unlikely friends in the form of mama Willow and her 6-month-old colt, Waffles. The protective mom and, admittedly, sometimes overwhelmingly spunky baby have adopted this stoic gentleman and he returns the favor with patience and love. To see them enjoying each other’s company and the beautiful Colorado days could just make our hearts burst. We are so happy we gave sweet Chester the time he needed to settle in, and we are so grateful he never gave up in waiting for his safe landing.
Chester is still quite new at the Ranch and hasn’t mixed with too many horses so far. From what we can tell, he seems to be a middle-of-the-pack boy that likes more horses than he dislikes, though! He is also a bit timid with the vet and farrier but doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.
Chester is up-to-date on vaccines, worming, teeth float, farrier, and vetting.
Recommended Rider: Because of his previous injuries, Chester is no longer able to carry a rider. He is also a bit on the sensitive side, so he is looking for a quiet home with an intermediate or advanced handler who will understand his need to go slow and build a trusting relationship.
Adoption Requirements: Though he is a shy boy, Chester recently surprised us by striking up a close friendship with palomino mama Willow and her baby Waffles. His sweet connection with them warms our hearts, so we would be over the moon if they could find a home together!
Ailments/Limitations: Before his rescue by Believe, Chester suffered a tragic injury to his lower back legs that fractured his sesamoids and left him with arthritis and bone disintegration. With supplements and rest, he has already been moving better, though, and we hope he will continue to heal and be more comfortable. However, because the injuries were traumatic and irreversible, he will not be able to be ridden again.
CHESTER IS STILL CURRENTLY UNDERGOING TRAINING AND EVALUATION AT BELIEVE RANCH & RESCUE AND IS NOT CURRENTLY UP FOR ADOPTION. HOWEVER, HE WILL BE AVAILABLE AND LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME SOON!
